THE STORY OF JULIE T.
When I was 13 years old, my life became hell. During the summer, I gained 30 pounds and ended up weighing 150 at only 5'3". I had never been overweight in my life. I had been having periods for over a year, but I never knew when they were going to come on. Every 6 or 8 weeks or so I would get a surprise-my period. The flow was heavy and I would get clots and terrible cramps. I had acne all over my face and did not know what to do to make it go away. As if all that wasn't enough, I had a whole bunch of premenstrual symptoms. I didn't notice them, but my Mom did. I had migraines, heart palpitations, breast pain, bloating, cravings for sweets, tired all the time, crying easily, and getting really grumpy and crabby. I was an honor roll student, and I wasn't doing too well in school, because I couldn't always concentrate on my studies. In fact, I was a "straight A" math student, and sometimes my math grades were real low.
Fortunately, my Mom is the author of this website. She had been helping women with hormone problems for years and years. She sat me down and explained how my body was not flushing estrogen due to stress and poor nutrition. She only asked me to do two things: take a special vitamin supplement every day and cut out all sweets including sodas. She said I could have a little bit of sweets on birthdays and holidays. It was like a miracle! On Labor Day I weighed 150, but by Christmas I was 125 and a size 7! My acne was gone!!! My periods became regular-once a month for only 3 or 4 days, with only 3 tampons on the heaviest day! I could pop a couple of Advil and make the cramps go away. The best part was that all my premenstrual symptoms started to go away. After a few months they were completely gone! My life was fun again.
I just turned 26 and I am in college having a great time! I have now been on my Mom's nutritional program for 13 years. That's HALF MY LIFE. The picture above is how I look now. It is amazing. There is obesity on both sides of my family. If I had not changed things at age 13, would I be way over 200 pounds right now? Probably. As a kid, my cholesterol was 272! Now it is only 190, which is normal.
I hope my story helps you to believe you can have a fun life, too!
